There's black and white, day and night, good and evil, yin and yang. It all just balances itself out.
Ilič, Risto ; Kořínková, Jana (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis "There's Black and White, Day and Night, Good and Evil, Ying and Yang" follows the three-year existence of the collective "Ugly Brno" and its work, which is based on the still current, local phenomenon of redesigning of advertising banners and shields in the context of small businesses located in the Brno city center. Specifically, it focuses on emerging designs combining black and white. The output of this bachelor's thesis is a video – a fictional interview in which Black and White are personified as two confident, eccentric personalities, quasi-experts in today's visual culture and the ultimate guarantors of taste, who conquered the city of Brno with their realizations. The objective of this thesis is to reveal the mythology behind the popularity of black and white combination in the context of visual culture, particularly in graphic design and its connection to the problematics of gentrification and capitalism. Another objective is to use sarcasm and irony to create a reflection of a culture whose values are elitism, workaholism, perfectionism, disregard for alternatives and an emphasis on efficiency. Why is it that in such a culture, black and white has gained more and more popularity than ever before?

Šnajdrová, Adéla ; Fullerová, Veronika (referee) ; Kaňovská, Lucie (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with visual smog, outdoor advertising and especially billboards in selected parts of Brno. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part of the thesis deals with the theoretical background to the issue. The second part of the thesis deals with the ways of regulation of advertising and visual smog in the world, in the Czech Republic and then in Brno. It then goes on to discuss the legislative basis for regulating advertising in the Czech Republic, followed by a more detailed analysis of advertising, visual smog and especially billboards and how to deal with their legality. The last part of the thesis deals with suggestions of possible recommendations for increasing the interest of both state administration authorities and citizens in the placement of advertising media.
I Am The One Who's Gonna Steal Your Job
Ilič, Risto ; Houser, Milan (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
The diploma thesis I Am The One Who's Gonna Steal Your Job deals with the transitional period in the life of a young artist who dreams of career realization in his field. He thinks about how to achieve this when he realizes that even a less established painters can often sell their paintings for thousands of czech crowns, because paintings can be easily commodified and, as a result, placed in the interior. He thus decides to leave his area of practice and tries to get into the market with traditional artistic media with the help of artificial intelligence and marketing. He doesn't go far for visual inspiration, as he tries to recycle and distort photos (so-called visual smog) of a corner store on the other side of the street. The thesis deals with the issue of the emergence of artificial intelligence in the field of visual arts and with the eternal question of the ethics of the authorship of a work of art and its authenticity. It also deals with the question of the employment of art school graduates. Therefore, the work does not only provide a subversive analysis of the art market but also a reflection of the position of the artist participating in this market.
Visual media in the urban space
Strejcová, Anna ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee)
The diploma theses Visual Media in the Urban Space deals with the issue of commercial visual media in the public space and the way they are incorporated to the city centers. I am focusing on that kind of media that invade the public space with the biggest force, such as billboards, bigboards, citylights, video screens, wraps, etc. The goal of the research is to compare the placement and the quantity of the out-of-home advertisements in the center of Prague and Barcelona. The research is done from the historical, cultural and geographical point of view (I am not going to investigate the visual messages from the semiotic point of view). I have chosen these two cities because they are the economic and cultural centers of the region and they have a very long history. Since these two cities are placed in the European cultural space and there are global agencies operating on the market I suppose there will be some parallels in the placement and appearance of the visual messages. My hypothesis is that most of the advertisements will be placed in the new-built neighborhoods and the historical centers will be less "visually polluted". Another hypothesis is that the public space in Prague will be filled more with aggressive media forms than the public space in Barcelona. According to my hypothesis there is...

Principles of regulation of advertisin in historic city centres with regard to the visual identity of the city
Martin, Jakub ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Lebedová, Veronika (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the principles of advertising regulation in historic city centers with respect to the visual identity of the city. The subject of the work was created in the spirit of the following idea: If we want to stop for a while in the city landscape andtake a moment to observe it, discover its interesting and valuable details, and not just pass through it so quickly, we encounter a lot of visual obstacles that make this impossible. Our senses become too exhausted and we soon feel tired as a result of all the messages we are trying to evaluate. That is why we often resort to fleeing to the safety of our homes instead of enjoying the atmosphere of the historic part of the city, for example. The primary goal of the work was to discover and clarify how the promotion of establishments is approached in general and what role municipalities themselves can playin this. First, however, it was necessary to define outdoor advertising and characterize itsbasic properties, even in the context of its historical development, because without it, the work could not be complete. Furthermore, the work should try to capture clearly enough and describe, in which forms of the public space of historic city centers advertising can occur. Then, as a matter of logic, one part of the work deals with the...

Andresek, Šimon ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Hejlová, Denisa (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of visual pollution and its presence in the Republic of India, in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, in New Delhi, the capital, and in the Czech Republic and its capital, especially in Historic Centre of Prague. First, the space where visual pollution takes place and which could be mostly described as public, is defined by four perspectives based on its different functions and structures. Thereafter, the phenomenon of visual pollution is described both through the broad spectrum of its causes and through the processes of perception and cognition and the aesthetic evaluation of the environment that arises from these psychological processes. The subsequent part is dedicated to the consequences of the presence of visual pollution in public space, especially to the psychological ones. The practical part of this thesis is dedicated to the analysis of legislatïon and real status quo of the presence of visual pollution and the variety of its sources in examined states and especially at the level of particular municipalities. First, the legislation is analysed concerning visual pollution itself and its manifestations at the level of state units. Thereafter, the specific legislative implementations of visual pollution and its primary sources are identified...
Vizuální komunikace ve veřejném prostoru
Serenčko, Igor
The development of human society brings with it a constant increase in the amount of information that one has to deal with every day. The rhythm of society in cities has accelerated to the maximum. Cities are no longer able to regulate the amount and quality of information and advertising affecting events in public space. The article deals with theoretical approaches dealing with the topic of public space and outlines the methodology of future research in order to find possible solutions using qualitative research. The anticipated innovations could serve both for further research and for the wider professional public.
